Yes and no. The NA stock '96 "batch" for 993 is a much harder / risker to "chip" (epoxied?) than the '97 batch, so few if anyone will attempt it. Have not read similar "stock" efforts on the TT M64.60 DME or if the TT S came with a different DME to gain the extra HP.
Have to wonder with the advent AI writen code, if someone will evenly reverse engineer a DME clone that can then be fully programed and yet fully integrate into the "normal" DME 993 functions. Managing the IM, Alarms, and "ball bat" / idiot light warnings is a rats nest to reproduce with typical ECU engine build replacements (Motec, etc.). Running the engine is not a big deal (for engine builders) if you are willing to give up the stock DME non engine functions or skip "integration".
In my '97 993 RS Tribute 4.0 I run both in parallel (97' DME and Motec) and just live with the lack of full integration on the dash / IM.
