The Bosch number I have for a '97 ECU is:

0 261 204 377

However, since I see you are outside the US, I doubt this is of much value as I suspect you do not have all of the OBD2 stuff we deal with.

Maybe some of the ROW guys can chime in...

Where can I find the ECU? I have a very late build 1996 and am wondering if it might have the newer ECU...

Under the driver's seat. If you put it all the way back and up you should be able to read the #.
