Question The boost has returned... but how?

I had noticed over the last few years my boost in a 96 turbo has been declining, max I got in 2nd and third was 0.7 bar (maybe 0.8 near max rpm). In fourth and fifth gear, near 100mph I would get 0.8 solid...

Anyway, had it smoked tested, checked with manual gauge, etc, and was always 0.7ish, on occasion 0.8 or 0.9 when in high speeds. My mechanic chalked it up to just older turbos (55k miles, one TC rebuilt)... but said not worth replacing since so close to max boost.

However, over the past few weeks, something seemed to happen because now it pulls much harder, and I see 0.8 bar in 2nd gear again (>4k RPM)!! Only think I can think of was I took it for a long weekend excursion, 4-5h, maybe 200 miles or so... maybe something was gumming it up and now clean? Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Ross

The spring once hung up on my old wastegate with a shim. (powerful- careful) Also once a pinched diaphragm. Just a thought if not electronic controlled. If its .8 all the time- perfect- even 1 bar at spike. leave it alone- enjoy my thought.

Always have found hitting .8 bar is not as easy when weather is hot. I can usually get .8 under 70 degrees weather in denser air. We had a fairly lower temp June.
