Alois Ruf @ Dunkel Bros...
Ruf Racer asked me to post this pic from last Sunday. Alois Ruf is on the right with Jim Post, the owner of the white Turbo R. This car was a Carrera 4S which was flown over to RUF in Germany for a complete Turbo R conversion.

Ouch. Damn... that car is *painfully* handsome. I only wish the Ruf conversions weren't so darn expensive. Maybe I'll buy a lottery ticket this week...

Interesting, RUF is still using the same OZ wheels in their conversions. I love those wheels, but soooo wish it had the deep-dish/lip look instead.
OG,
I believe the Turbo-R yields around 490 HP and costs approximately $35k nowadays. It's maximum bang for the $$$$ if you start out with a regular Carrera. You already have a tt, so the gain is not that huge.

Put his and mine together, and you'll have everything you want to know about RUF, in black and white. I know it's bad, just can't resist.

CP,
i think ruf actually has the generation 2 rims which indeed have a deeper dish look than the flat ones that i got.
OG,
Alois's claim of 490 is extremely conservative. look at the torque figures to get a better idea of what the car will do...(all their claims are on the conservative side)
To be honest, Ruf's engine conversion isn't really earth shattering... it's the integrated roll cage that is his true calling card!
The cage transforms the chassis into an entirely different animal. torsional loading is incrediblly stiff, trail braking becomes superbly progressive... body sway is greatly reduced. the car simply feels different. but only when driven hard are the subtle changes noticable.
I love my car

Gawd that car looks great. I regret that I never did that body to my TT. I went back and forth but never pulled the trigger on those bumpers. I still contest that is one of the best looking Porsches, period!

Yeah I considered using those bumpers until I found out they were about $2300 each before shipping and paint/install.

Much depends on how you got your RUF. Original owners pay between $107k to $300k for a new RUF (BTR - CTR), tax on-top. If you are an original owner, it may be hard to recoup your outlay. If you buy used, then it will depend on how lucky you are with your purchase. RUFs are REALLY rare cars, and most RUF owners have holding power, so they seldom go for bargain-basement prices. Bottom-line is, I think RUFs do very well in the value department, but I doubt there's enough sales to make meaningful market value assessments.

A couple of months ago I was thinking about doing a Ruf conversion to my car, and ended up collecting a ton of photos of Ruf bodykits. If anyone's interested, they're in a sub-album in my Rennlist gallery here ...
