At the outset, please accept my apology for posting another oil thread but a search did not reveal any information on molybdenum. There is a new thread on the 993 forum in which a Motul rep implies the molybdenum levels in M1 V Twin are lower than in Motul oil resulting in more engine wear. The thread goes on to say the V Twin levels are lower to prevent clutch slippage in motorcycles. However, the M1 V Twin oil analysis' posted on this forum indicate minimal wear levels and so most of us use it. Is there any validity to the desirability of higher moly levels or are the levels in M1 V Twin adequate? Steve and Mike please chime in.....
I started to follow that thread too. I don't have your answer but my brother (motorcycle guy) gave me some flack years ago saying the V-twin oil was specific to the wet clutches in motorcycles to keep them from slipping too much. And basically it was a problem for motorcycles simply not working without the clutch gripping enough. Apparently, it's a common mistake newbies to motorcycling make by putting in regular auto oil and then the bike won't go!

eh, all the UOA i've seen on these cars running vtwin has been excellent. I guess if you were nervous, you could mix mobil 15w50 with Vtwin to come up with a reasonable concoction, but I'd say its unnecessary.
Greetings - Attached I have a Motul report that clearly shows higher levels of Moly in Motul vs. Mobil V-Twin. 2020 results are Motul 15w-50 and 2019 results are Mobil 1 V-twin 20w-50. However, you might notice MOtul has less zinc and phosphorus but still a fair amount more than standard oils I believe.
Let me know if you can glean any other info from my results.
Ok, here is mine from my Turbo using exclusively V-twin. The moly is definitely less, but zinc is a bit better. You have less miles on your oil though. Interesting about V-twin, definitely good data to consider.
Thanks for submitting. So what does this tell us? No significant difference in wear so use the less expensive oil? Doesn't this dispel the dreaded water/acid/etc. contamination hypothesis which the frequent oil change proponents use to rationalize a potentially wasteful pursuit?
