Default Anyone wants to trade?

I wonder if anyone would be interested in trading 3 for 1: '90 964 C2 GR stock, '96 993 Targa Black stock, 2001 996 TT GR stock for one 993 Turbo. All cars are manual. C2 has freshly rebuild engine (1250 miles ago).
You get 3 cars, i get one Am i crazy?

I think the 993 turbo will give most of the qualities you like in your 3 cars in one. Actually a good comparison. The speed of the 6 turbo, old school charm/air cooled character of the older cars. I like the concept of a targa (really the first panorama roofs that a lot of the newer cars have), but in the end, they are finicky with more parts that can break etc. Going forward, just getting coups/non-sunroof. With 3 cars, more maintenance/insurance, don’t have the space. Last air cooled turbo. The 3 turbo is just a keeper.

Nice collection of cars. Unfortunately, you are going to find most owners here looking to add other cars instead of giving up the 3TT.

I took mine out yesterday for a good drive. Mom in the passenger seat and 6 yr old son fitting perfectly in the back with no booster. Exactly why I chose the car and will have this for another few years.

Take the time to sell your cars and enjoy them while they are around. Then look for a 3TT or 997.2GT3 at that price range. Another option is to sell the 993 targa and 6TT. Keep the 964 C2 and get a 7TT with money leftover.

When i offered a trade, my thoughts for the perspective trade partner:
1. 964C2 - build nice car to take to the track
2. Targa - cruise around on a weekend (btw, i fixed all roof issues so it's going to be good for a while)
3. 996TT - Longer club rides to keep up with all the modern ones.

I agree, 993T are precious and most of them used to show off. If there is someone who wishes to go to the track, but worried for the retained value, this might be an interesting option.

I can see your point of view and actually it's a fair proposal with a good mix of models. I have no room to be adding more cars and like others have mentioned it's hard to give up. As stated above I think you might be just better off selling all 3 cars and buying a TT. The $ worth of all 3 cars are definitely in the correct range.

Also, note that both Knight and Basal are in British Columbia - the cost of insuring a 911 here is at least $1500 to over $2000 a year per car, so you will find not many have multiple cars like in the US. There is a collector program locally that will reduce the insurance rates on these older 911's, but it still a lot of $$$.

This all depends on what you want, you looking for a car that does it all? Many cars do that, its all up to the needs and wants of the owner. Personally, the 993TT is the best choice for me and so I am sticking with it.

Your collection is good - the 996TT is still one of the best bangs for the buck and is appreciating, and the 964 is also appreciating. The 993 targa is flatlined or dropping, and as those seals and mechanism age things can go very wrong (I owned one for 11 years so I have personal experience), I agree with everyone, if you want to remix cars, sell the 996TT and the 993 Targa, and look for something else.

Cheers,

Mike

@Mike J I know you from the normal 993 forum. Used your advise on my Targa roof issues I fixed all Targa issues on mine though. It works great now. and there is no noise at high speeds. For whatever reason, the sliding bearings were not installed correctly on the sliding part of the room. Left one was on the right, and right one was on the left. Anyways, it all good now. Air cooled is my favorite, though. So I'm looking for 993TT to drive around. It will give me the speed of 996TT with the air cooled feeling from either Targa or 964.

So you think your strategy will be to sell the Targa and 996, and use funds against the 993TT, or you like the those cars too much? The 993TT market has softened a lot from the hype a few years ago (should have sold and bought again haha), so you can get better deals. I think the values have pretty well dropped to a stable position right now, no one really knows what the future will hold though. One downside of the 993TT is fuel consumption - you definitely pay in fuel to play in this car, and us guys here in Vancouver suffer a bit given we have the highest prices of fuel in North America - luckily the border is close!

Best of luck!

Cheers,

Mike

Unless you have a turbo tucked away somewhere, you have two cars both with less than 300 hp, so I think getting a 993TT would be a significant jump given the power. Lots of people talk about HP, but forget the 993TT has 400 ft-lbs of torque which gives you that great thrust when you step on it. Once you get used to driving one, when you drive a NA 964 or 993, they feel really anemic. :-)

Cheers,

Mike

Well, my 996TT is a beast. Punching it with 3K RPM produces some very enjoyable thrills. However, saying it, I do like driving my 964 quite a bit, and if anything it feels faster On 996TT, you blink and you're breaking the speed laws. With 964, you feel like you going super fast, yet it's 40 mph
