Spoiler/engine cover shocks?
I hope you will forgive the intrusion of a 993 C4S owner but my car has the turbo whale tail so my question fits better here.
Does anyone one know where to find new hydraulic arms for the engine compartment cover? Mine are old and tired and will no longer hold the lid up when opened. It’s dinged my head a couple of times and I’m tired of it.
Thanks!
Rudy

Any of the suppliers have them - l deal with Sunset Porsche but that is because its closer. Be careful to get the correct ones (I like the Porsche brand over the third party ones, they seem to be more consistent), if you mount for instance two cabriolet shocks the lid will be too highly sprung and slam open, which can damage the hinges. Same goes for using one shock, that puts a cross-torsion on the whole tail assembly, not good over the long term. They are a pretty easy replacement, lots of stuff on the net about it - just make sure to use a sheet/cloth below the hinge the first time before removing the retaining clips/pins so if you drop it (which is very likely to happen) you will not lose it in the bowels of the engine compartment.

Cabriolet struts are 370nm as are the standard ones, just a tad shorter so wont open any quicker. I think you are meaning the 600nm version as used on cars with earlier heavy spoilers (not the 993 turbo spoiler)

From my experience they seem to be a lot stiffer (higher compression gas charge?), not longer (and certainly not almost double the length, that would be a bear to install), but hey I am getting old and my memory may be going. I am certainly not going to order a set to try it out. :-) There is one 993 Turbo I service here that has this issue, will take a look at the shocks next time the car is in. I saw this with another 993 as well, but that car was sold and I not longer see it.
