Those tires were manufactured during Clinton's first term in the oval office.

It's probably a bad idea to drive on them.

Yes, for sale. I guess I should indicate that in the ad title.

Who mounts wheels weights on the outside like that? WTF... is that common? Great wheels though!

I've owned several 993's with Cup 2's that had the wheel weights mounted on the outside as these are.
I always assumed that was done at the factory.

It surprises and disappoints how little mention and general knowledge exist regrading tires' dates of manufacture. Many drive on older, unsafe tires- because there's plenty of tread and they look good, endangering themselves and other vehicles.
A recent Consumer Reports lengthy article on tires, overall good data, once again made no mention of how to decode that date on the sidewall, and when to discard older rubber despite its 'good' appearance.

The code on the side of the tire is pretty simple to decode. If it says (3214) it means it was manufactured in the 32nd week of 2014. Same as (0507) would mean the 5th week in 2007 Porsche recommends discarding tires after 6 years from date of manufacture. I would not risk driving on old tires no matter how much tread is left. I usually replace my tires with as much as 75% of the tread left on some cars. I just don't drive them enough to wear them out before they start to dry rot or worse the belts separate. You can feel it in the tires they get kind of squirrely in a straight line. I had a set on my turbo I replaced that were on the car for 7 years but only used them to go to and from shows at the time had the remounted on a set of wheels for winter storage and I ended up with bubbles in the sidewalls from the rubber being old.

BTW the Carrera GT accident killing the actor Paul Walker was said to be a result of driving fast on old tires.

Yes the factory used to mount the weights on the outside and inside. Not done by most shops anymore.

Just learned the seller is asking $1100 for the rims only. Rubber is for free but given their age with 30% thread left that should not be a surprise...

That isn't a bad price I don't follow the CupII's as much but I recently have unloaded a couple of pristine sets of CupI's for $3250 and $3750 a set with center caps no tires.
