Beru Plug Wires

So I learned there are two types of factory Beru plug wires. Crimped ends and threaded screw on ends. Can someone explain?

I think it's just what it says. I think the original ones had a fitting that allowed the connector to be screwed on to the wire. Newer ones are crimped.

Lots of pictures here of the older, better, screw-together connectors.

I've installed 2 sets of the newer crimped style wires. No issues.
IIRC, Alex (IXLR8) used to custom make the wire set and all you do is transfer all the boots, clips, and grommets from your original set if they're in good condition. However, wires will not have I-1, I-2, I-3, etc.. markings on them.

I don't know about the issue of screw-on, however, Beru wires have a slightly different metal connector than Bosch on the distributor side. Mixing Bosch & Beru seems to work OK as I have done this.

I discovered recently that you can buy the ends separately, but not the wires, if you need them. The ends are a woodscrew style attachment, so if you don't like the crimped version you can buy woodscrew style and replace them. Ends are 5 or 6 bucks each, so pretty reasonable.

You need a special tool to install the screw-type connectors correctly, and it is $325!

Not the wood screw type. They thread directly onto the wires, no crimping required.

I'm not familiar with the wood screw type--didn't even know Beru made such a thing...

Pictures or link?

I didn't either, till I called them and enquired about replacement ends. For example: http://www.beruparts.com/product.sc?productId=227&categoryId=12

I don't have a picture of the internals, but I did ask them to describe to me how it worked. Its a tapered female screw that you thread onto the bare wires.

Thanks for the link. It shows a picture of the entire terminal, but as you pointed out, not of the internals. It is just for the end of the wire that connects to the coil/distributor, not for the spark plug boot end.

Spark plug ends are here: http://www.beruparts.com/category.sc?categoryId=11

Not sure if they will sell you wires alone though, since they want you to buy the whole wire kit.

Found a set from a Rennlister with the screw on ends.
