Of course a place that has a reputation for transmissions and in Germany is going to be cheaper right now. I've been buying my 993 parts in Germany lately because after the VAT refund I'm saving 20-25% off American online prices just for the parts.

Two reasons for the lower price;
#1 -- economy of scale since they specialize in transmissions

#2 -- weak Euro

Freisinger is such a well-known and long running business that it would be hard to imagine you getting screwed with them having zero negative feedback besides the owner being a bit of a dick on PFF which is Germany's Rennlist.

You seem to be assuming that the higher priced repair locally will be better when in fact it might actually be worse when being done by someone that has a half-assed idea of what they're doing and doesn't do the job as often. (Then again maybe it's mostly a take out part A and put in part B type job.)

If you'd like I'll have my girlfriend call to get the scoop in their language.

Thanks Destaccado,

I appreciate the offer. I'll PM you if I decide to take you up on it.

I sent them an invoice for all the parts needed to make sure they would take the core and to see if I can get a parts price from them.

I'll see what kind of response I get and make a decision then.

They bought our 917 engine case, wired money and arranged shipping.
Could not have been smoother.

I know, not quite the same as your situation!

Eric,
Where are you located in Germany? The only place I trust is Carsten Geyer in Bamberg. PM me if you need more info. He overhauled my gearbox some 5 years ago incl. LWF conversion. Still runs great.

Thanks for the feedback Joanne. That 917 case is pretty cool.

Hi EckFe1, I'm across the pond in California, hence my concerns. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks

Freisinger is the real deal. I used to buy GT3 and GT2 gearboxes from them 10 at a time. Never an issue. They have historically bought tons and tons of factory crate spare engines and gearboxes. They also bought out Carl Thompson( who took over Vasek's business after he died), including the famous unnumbered 917 built from scratch using spares. Their collection of original factory motorsports parts is the largest in the world outside of Porsche's own collection of spares.

The father, who was the backbone of the race team has retired. The son runs the place now and is more $$$ focused. He's the one getting negative reviews for having an attitude. He's a pretty straight to the point no BS kind of guy. They are both Manfred.

Thanks GTgears,

That is good to know.

I did decide to have it rebuilt locally. Sending it to Roger at California Motorsports. I found some used gears which help with the cost.

Thanks Rennlisters for the recommendations and parts!

Default Manfred Freisinger (Motorsports)

Thread is old but wondered how the outcome of this transaction went? Any contact number that he will answer ?
purchased (OEM NOS turbo cup parts)
I sent money, same process, wire instructions and invoice. After he got money ( my bank confirmed funds received) and he has stopped communication or answering question on shipping and tracking info for parts to USA. Know behind g to worry that I’ve been scammed out of $4k

ambody got any decent dealing with these folks?

FYI: purchased parts in mid 2000s from them and had no issues back then

I'm in need of a transmission rebuild for a 993 turbo and they offer a rebuilt one for $7500 euro with core exchange which seems like a great deal.

Cost to rebuild my trans is more than twice that. Bearing failure took out ring and pinion and several gears.

I let them know my core exchange is in bad shape and offered pics and estimate.

I got back wire transfer instructions (only payment option) and an invoice.

I'm a little nervous to say the least about this transaction.

Thanks
