Default Headlight technical questions

I replaced my HID system by LED bulbs. Just like my mufflers that don't sound loud enough I think the headlight still don't light enough!

I'm not a tech guy but I see there is a very thick and OPAQUE glass (see red arrow below) that "blocks" of diffuse the light. Is there something I could do to this part to have a brighter light? From my understanding, removing it would be equal to having high beam and I don't want that.

And by the way, why is there a level on the headlights (white arrow)?

Level is used to aim the headlight beams.

Had the same thing on my old Audi S6, see the US spec headlight on the right (Euro HID on left) :

The thick lens is part of the low beam light construction and needed for a correct light output pattern.
You could clean the lens if it is dirty. Beware, do NOT touch the reflectors. Even very soft paper makes scratches in the fraglie surface. Blow clean.

The spirit level is a US car requirement.

Cheers,
Tore

Done!

I removed the projector and cleaned it. The inside part was very dirty! Maybe you can see it on the picture where I cleaned only one half ...

I will wait before doing the other side. I want to see the difference tonight.

How did you remove the projector lens?

It was easier to remove it than finding my tools

Sorry for my English (2nd language!) But once you remove the whole assembly, you need to remove the cover (opposite side of the lense itself). Remove the bulb and then you will see 3 screws around the socket where the light was (3 torx 20). You only have to unscrew them and pull the projector.

I'm Looking forward to try it tonight. I had changed from HID to LED and didn't see much difference.

As a reference, theretrofitsource makes a projector upgrade for 993s with a clear lenses and a much better output and cutoff than factory. Not expensive and worthwhile upgrade. It's on my list for next year.

I saw it and emailed them (no answer yet). But I wasn't sure if I had to buy the whole xenon kit

You don't. You can buy just the projectors separately. I purchased a kit from them years ago to build a solid setup on my tundra. That car now has the best night lighting of any vehicle I've owned.

71-3.0-911,

How do you think theretrofitsource -
https://www.theretrofitsource.com/co...rsche-993.html

compares to this thread -
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-beam-mod.html

I read the brochure page and install instructions on theretrofitsource and was pretty impressed.

Thanks,
Dave

Here is an answer I just got from retrofit source.

Hello Patrick, thank you for contacting us! LED bulbs are not an upgrade in 99% of applications, including yours. The technology is just not there yet. The RetroQuik kit is as straight forward as it gets for swapping your projector out with something up to the modern times. This would go back to using your factory HID system or you can replace it with all new components. This is going to be the absolute best upgrade and LED bulbs will also not work well in these projectors which are strictly H1 based projectors.

I think the LEDs would be fine for the high beams. They should be a bit brighter than the halogen units. However, the upgraded projectors with HID units (factory, tor, aftermarket, whatever) will have the greatest output for low beams. I am planning on running 4300k (no blue, like daylight) HIDs on the upgraded projectors. I did LX570 projectors and 4300k denso ballasts on my tundra and it's an amazing car to drive at night. Can't wait to swap my 993 units and retrofit my land cruiser. It's a safety issue for me. The better I can see, the happier I am.
