64-68 are expensive dead or alive.

69-73 are trading for strong money.

74--77 Are the most affordable but not cheap.

78-83 have come up in value.

84-89 are expensive.

90-94 are hard to find.

95-98 are still asking good money.

Hard to compare each generation in terms of price as they are not apples to apples.
Would have to be same miles, options and condition to really compare.

The point I try to make is that journalists usually state that the 993 is the most desirable 911 among aircooled porsche fans, when in fact each model have the same attraction.

I often read that the 996s are the least popular 911s and that is at least true if You look at the prices.

All air cooled Porsches are desirable. At different times, some are more desirable than others in the marketplace. I love all of them and would proudly own any.

This is just to name a few 993s that are way above and beyond any 964 sold recently.
Good examples of a hyper-inflated market. But none of these are your average 993 C2 coupe. Here are actual sales prices (not listing prices or asking prices) of 964s and 993s pulled from yesterday's eBay. These are only auctions in which the vehicle actually sold. It does not use cabs, 4S, turbos, or targas...only C2 coupes.

Of 23 that sold the average price was $43.2k...that included 4 that were over $50k.
11 sold for under $40k, 6 for between $40 and $45k, 2 between $45k and $50k, and 4 over $50k.

Of the 11 under $40k, the average price was $33.6k.
Of the top three prices...$79k...$74k...$69.3k the mileage was 16k, 24k and 18k.

What does all this mean? It means a 993 is not a 401K. If you own one, drive it and enjoy it for exactly what it is...a very nice 20+ year old car that sooner or later will need some expensive maintenance. As will your own body...sooner or later. So don't leave either sitting in the garage. Enjoy your car and enjoy your life. And don't waste time counting nickels and dimes.

An interesting way to look at would be RS models. Again, production numbers and age play a role.

1973RS $500k+++
1992RS $250-350k
1995RS $500k

Agreed. Although you left out the 964 3.8RS's which are seeing $800k+. Don't forget the SCRS which is also over $500k. Rarity condition color. The right air cooled brings big money. They are all desirable. I am surprised to see that the early water cooled cars are on the rise as well. 928GTS's in good condition are seeing close to 6 figures and rising. 944 turbo S's and 968 M030 cars are double from a year or so back. Look at 914-6's now 6 figure cars for a clean example.

What you see with the longhood cars is people paying huge money for damaged rollers and spending several hundred grand to restore them. There is also a huge amount of money being spent on restomod/outlaw cars.

Each of these has its show dogs and mutts. Value is IMO a direct result of how big a grin you get from driving them.

But the question in this thread is if the journalists will stop describing the 993 as the most desirable 911, for us who own one it will always be!

I have owned two 964's and my last 911 before my 993 was a 911SC. I can say for me it is the most desirable because it is the best driving. I love the car and really didn't buy it last summer as an investment.

I sold my '66 3-gauge 912 to get my '96 993, and am glad for making that decision.

You guys should try 928's. Great cars and have a lot in common with the 993. Much more compliant than a 964 or early 911's. That kinematic rear suspension has a similar feel. Although I drive the 928 for the ride quality and the 964's for the fun factor. Although a stock 964 is a bit of a bore and needs some upgrades to bring out the best in it.

Quick Reply: The 993 is not the most desirable aircooled 911 anymore!
