Lots of info on this subject on this forum. Just do a search. Lots are running Mobil V-Twin 20w50 Motorcycle oil. Search it and it will make sense why people are running this type.

The 'oil argument thread' is the universal truth on the internet. Even the ladies on my grandmother's crochet forum go on and on over what weight Valvoline to use in the Grand Caravan.

With a little research you will find that there are 4-6 brands of oil that seem to work best in the 993. All will work well in 993's that are street driven only. A couple are better when the car is tracked.

Pick one of those brands, try it, and if it works for your car, stay with it. That way, you'll have a "standard" if something starts to go awry with your oil consumption.

Assuming that any of these 4-6 brands of oil are used in your car, equally important is checking and maintaining the proper oil level in the engine and changing the oil at the appropriate intervals.

Good oil-Proper level-Changed on schedule...That's just about all you need to know.

Personally I use canola but grapeseed has a higher flash point.

I was using Redline in my modified twin turbo, but just switched to Mobil One V-Twin 20-50. Car is running flawlessly.

Inevitably someone will make some stale joke about vegetable oil or something... Guaranteed every oil thread.

Kurt, you must have overlooked post #7. It's too bad we don't have a FAQ stickied at the top of the forum.

I'm guessing OP is not in the US? Might change on what is recommended.

Guess I've got to be quicker... I just noticed an oil thread on the 997 forum and sure enough - someone prefers canola oil over there too.

ermed,

There are a few good oils out there, the Mobil V-Twin is a good one. I use a 50/50 blend of the V-Twin and Mobil 15W-50. Just don't use a light oil like 0W-40 or 5W-30, they are too thin for air cooled engines.

What happened between the 3.2 and 3.6 that knocked Brad Penn 20w50 out as the clear favorite?

Brad Penn is still recommended. My car has been using it for many miles with good results.
