1996 993TT Car Phone
Can anyone help me, please, with the Porsche installed Nokia phone that I have in my car?
How do you go about getting this activated? Do you just subscribe with a provider and specify the unit?
Is there any special telecoms voodoo involved?
TIA <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />

Are you sure your phone was Porsche installed? I was under the impression that the latest phone offered by Porsche was a Fujitsu. If you can get the Nokia's model number, you can have Nokia determine the type of network it works on (TDMA, CDMA or GSM). After that, it would be easy to find a provider in your area.

If it’s the Fujitsu, it’s analog only, and you may have problems finding a provider for analog only phones. I used AT&T when I had mine, but this was a few years ago. Call them and ask about analog only. If they support it, take the phone into a local retailer. They’ll lighten your wallet and set you up.
Good luck!

Tom, thanks.
It is a Fujitsu phone. Are you still using yours?
Do you know if there's a good/easy digital replacement if I can't get analog service?

Nope, I sold the whole console to someone who wanted to put in a GPS based navigation system. I have no use for any phone in my car, let alone an outdated, analog one. The ancient battery on the handheld unit would last a matter of hours. I now have a normal hand held cell phone like everybody else.
I’ve heard of people yanking the guts of the Fujitsu unit out and replacing it with a more modern phone.
There’s more info on this old <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002017" target="_blank">thread</a>.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks, Tom. I've got exactly the same unit as posted in the above picture. I don't mind it or its color contrast with the beige. I agree that it's probably better just to carry a portable but it leaves this large console redundant.
Does anyone have a picture of the standard console so I can see what it would be like taken out?
TIA
