It completely replaces the factory deck lid. So nothing goes up & down.

I'm interested, but not sure if I'm ready to spend the cash. I'll keep an eye on this 'till the end.

Basically the post said that the standard, ducktail, and RS spoilers dont aid in cooling or downforce between each other. The RSCS tail barely starts to generate appreciable downforce at speed, and you need to jump up to the banana wings/uprights to have a competent, adjustable wing for racing.

I'm sure track guys can answer the question better with more experience, but this is a recap of a post I read when I first joined RL.
My understanding is that the standard pop-up spoiler on a 993 is not designed to generate downforce. The body shape of all the air-cooled 911's generates aerodynamic lift at speed. The rear spoiler is designed to negate lift, not produce downforce.
I would think that some type of formal modelling or wind tunnel testing would be required to answer the question of whether or not a ducktail negates lift as effectively as the standard rear spoiler.
Engine cooling is a secondary function of the spoiler. I'm not sure how important it really is, as these engines aren't exactly prone to overheating anyway.

^Agreed. Except that in physics, negating lift is the same as providing downforce, thats just a sign change. Either way, none of this matters really unless you track and are driving over highway speed limits most places anyways. Just wanted to comment because, like myself, a lot of people assume the ducktail provides more downforce than other variants because its a roughly 45* wedge off the back end, and from what I anecdotally read on RL, its mostly for looks and not much else.

Let me know if you have interest.

Grill not included.
I don't want to take anything away from Speedracer997's excellent effort for this group buy, and I apologize for the slight thread drift, but ---

I have been talking to Getty Design during the last week about making their Ducktail with a change from their current design that would have the stock 993's Grill fit into the Getty Ducktail.

I might be able to arrange for a group buy directly if their was enough interest in this altered Ducktail.

There would be no need to purchase an additional grill, & I think it might look pretty cool...

For those of us that have "Twin Grills" these would also fit... This is what I am actually after.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I'm open to the idea. What'st he cost of everything? Also how will the tail look like?

Speed,

The cost would be less if we can spead it over 10 tails.

I am discussing the fitment currently with Getty.

In my opinion and many others the Getty tail is the best.
Getty has taken the time to properly adjust the angle of the decklid and placement of the Duck for the fit on the 993's.

Being as the 993 grill is larger, we are talking about making the top edge of the grill higher rather than lowering the bottom edge of the grill.
This will maintain the curvature of Getty's Duck that they have done such a good job creating.

But I'm open to thoughts.
Might be a good idea to PM me your number?

Thanks,
Dave

If the grille is not included, where do you get one? Or do you somehow use the stock one?

I am proposing to use the stock grill.
Otherwise you have to buy a "G" body 74-89 decklid grill on top of the ducktail.

Thanks,
Dave

Is this group buy still active? Is there a discount for the CF model?

Thanks,
Pete

wish I had seen this earlier, been planning to get a ducktail for my 997.2 for awhile. Coincidentally just got my Gundo hacked mufflers from Fister. Is this still open?

FYI, that group buy was from over a year ago.
