Default 993 Manual Gearbox Casing

Folks, I have a damaged gearbox casing which is beyond a simple weld job.

The gearbox is made up of three parts and it's the bell housing section I'm after part number 964 301 010 04.

I know it's a long shot but are there any damaged boxes out there?,

Thanks in advance,

Trev

Trev,
I had a hairline crack in the bellhousing, exactly along the lower right hand side mounting hole for the motor. We only found out because I purchased a LWF Supercup clutch.
We had to completely empty the gear box and weld the bellhousing for app. 4".
A skillful welder can do the magic.
Do you have pictures of your damage?

I second this statement. I've seen a transmission s few years back which was "sabotaged" by the precious owner with a 2 lb. hammer - he punched a few holes in the casting. This transmission was repaired as well.

Some welders are artist and can do unbelievable things!

I do have a pic of the tranny, however I think I can paint a picture in you mind's eye when I say the bell housing is not connected to the remainder of the box :-).

I.e. it cracked all the way round, this was caused by a side impact which pushed the driveshaft into the tranny and caused the split.

So not just a crack in the AL casting. Might have some internal damage as well. That explains it better...

Simple solution: buy a 964 Carrera 4 bell housing and rebuild the gearbox into that. Everything fits apart from the vent pipe which does nothing but clog up your air filter.

Can't find a 964C4 case? Buy the whole gearbox and throw away everything but the rear differential, sell that on eBay and you have a perfect 6 speed for sensible money.

We have done this conversion several times so give me a shout if you want us to do the build.

@9M

that's certainly an option, I spoke with Colin last week regarding re-spray so that could work out nicely.

I'll give you a buzz to discuss,

I would check with Tom Conway at Carquip in Denver Colorado, when I was in need of a few
tail housings to convert 4S boxes to 2wd he had them in stock as well as I first called him
for a bell housing section for my '96 TT that had a section missing 'ouch'..
Don't have his number handy but Google is your friend..
