Default Porsche Classic- Oil Any 1 using it?

Does anyone on this board use Porsche Classics 10-60 oil? If so, how is your oil pressure at idle? Any leaks, do the lifters clatter at start up?
http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...m_medium=email

This post is only for my information and other interested members on the Porsche Classic oil. I may try some on my next change.

Please hold back on commenting on your favorite oil and why is better and I'm sure it is.

Thanks,

I would be interested to hear about this also.

A side note. I bought an older Harley a couple years ago. I immediately changed the fluids, including oil. When I was at the HD dealer, they had the Harley brand oil priced similarly to the V-twin M1 so I bought it. The motor had a very slight leak at the base of the cylinder when I brought it home. After the new oil, no leak since. When I mention it to other Harley guys they said that their bikes usually started leaking when switching to synthetic.

I know I have little data here - i.e. would it have leaked with M1? But based on others experience, I think that the oil has some characteristic that either works well with the HD seals or maybe some leak prevention additive. The oils seems to have been made specifically for Harley's. Maybe the Porsche oil might have some similar benefits aside from viscosity and ZDDP levels.

Until I see some detailed information (Zinc and Phosphorus PPM, oil analysis done by a reputable third after it's been in some else's engine, etc) why would you spend the extra coin on it?

Agreed...isn't it like $16.50 a Quart?

ya right (nice try), the only way that might happen was if you immediately locked the thread after your first post.

Somebody makes an oil that is cheaper than Porsche Classic...that is proof that Porsche Classic is ripping off the customer, right?
But what about its 10-60 vs 20-50, giving better flow when very cold and better viscosity when very hot.
Still Porsche shouldn't charge a premium, as the competing product is the finest made, most say.

I used it for 5 / 6 years and couldn't be happier.
pressure level is irrelevant since every oil pressure sensor/gauge is different
On your gauge, it will increase level when hot @ idle of minimum 1/2 bar to 1 bar compared to a 15/40
the lifters won't clatter, or more clatter, than another 10W-x

I have this funny feeling that its relabelled Liquimoly 10W60. There migth be further additives added specific to Porsche Requirements. I have used Liquimoly and am a big fan of all their products.

oh sorry, I thought it was handled in several threads before...
Yes, porsche classic or liqui moly or whatever is relabeled CASTROL
initially oil was developed for BMW M engines
it is called CASTROL TWS (for Ten Weight Sixty)
beware, there are two castrol 10w-60 now ,
the good for 993 = CASTROL EDGE 10W-60 SG for CLASSIC engines pre-2000, and
the not good = CASTROL EDGE RS 10W-60 - SM (low zddp) for newer cars

Make sure the bottles have BMW M certification and are API SG , they cost $9 and change on ebay if bought in 20x
search for Castrol TWS and check for API SG

Quoting froma BMW forum....

The BMW TSB SI B11 08 98 regarding engine oil for M engines calls for "Castrol RS SAE 10W-60 Synthetic Oil also called Castrol TWS Motorsport SAE 10W-60 Synthetic Oil".

The Castrol RS is the pre-2000 formulation. After 2000, the Castrol RS product was reformulated and lost its BMW approval.

According to Castrol, EDGE 10w-60 is the same as TWS.

As Blacklight says, Castrol RS SAE 10W-60 Synthetic Oil, also called Castrol TWS Motorsport SAE 10W-60 Synthetic Oil, also called Edge 10w-60 has a higher film strength than other Castrol 10w-60 products. I have read that the BMW Approved product is ester-based (it's a direct competitor to ELF and Motul ester racing oils) while the non-approved formulations are PAO based.
