I had a similar problem on my 88 Carrera. Seat wouldn't move when switch depressed. I found the seat had been forced all the way in the rear position and was locked up and wouldn't reverse (move forward). When you have the seat out, take a screwdrive and put it in the end of the screw drive of the seat and rotate it back until there is some play in the screw. Plug the seat back in and see if it works. I thought my switches were bad, but turned out it was maxed out and couldn't reverse without help.

Guys,
I recently replaced a switch in my '86 cab and wrote down some pretty detailed directions. Let me know if they are helpful and/or you have comments or corrections.

Thanks, Keith. Not a technical writer, but I play one on TV...
Actually, I'm just a little frustrated with some other tech articles and books that I have read lately that give you about 85% of the detail you need and then let you fend for yourself for the rest of the information. So, I've decided that each time I take on a new task on my car, I'm going to write DETAILED instructions on what I did so others don't need to make the same mistakes.
Glad you found the instructions useful.
