Default For the weight conscious

For all the weight watchers...and been wanting to lose all the unnecessary weight and go faster, I found this interesting article while looking for lightweight seats(recaros)

I just removed the carpet and the plastic liner (where the locking screws of the front end of the carpet fastens) from the trunk, and weighed them. 5.6 lbs.

Interesting story... but what I'd really like to hear is how his mechanic can squeeze 400 hp out of the 3.6 engine!

If each of us big guys just loses 30 or 40 lbs, it would be a lot easier.

You can read all about it here:
http://www.9mracing.co.uk/html/modul...20hit%20400bhp!

It is a 3.8 litre engine, not a 3.6 and they are only at 392hp. They expect that the addition of an equal length header system will clear 400hp.

Don't expect this mod to be cheap

Oh yes... Removing the trunk carpet was exactly how I started, now, about 300 lbs later, car feels great!

That's an article from 911& porsche world, last month I think....

(which has been kinda declining in terms of interesting articles lately, while Excellence has improved, in my book). Still the best 2 911 mags out there.

Kim (with Homer's voice): "mmmm, doonuts..."

FYI: Our monthly "South Beach Breakfast Club" drive starts at Krispy Kreme for a reason, and it's NOT the coffee...

PoorboyW, "just the tip of the iceberg"? What else did you remove?
Flying fin, did you remove all your carpeting from the interior?

I'm holding up on the rear seats. (Maybe I could remove one ) My daughter is still short enough to fit in it. The wife might take away my parts browsing privileges of she finds out that her's and the daughter's seats are gone

I'm with Kim,

Carpet only rear seats are mighty comfy, although getting there (if you're more than 9 years old) ain't going to be easy...

Mike,

I've removed: rear seats, rear "deck" with speakers, rear wiper, most of sound deadening, trunk carpet, tools, spare etc., I have Sparco bucket seats (driver's side directly bolted to the floor), RS door panels with tiny speakers (yes, I now even have stereo!), no cat, supercup mufflers etc. etc.

That adds to about 300 lbs removed and I'm far from Princeton (I'm not done yet, that's for sure though!), my car is Lexus (above mentioned stereo) compared to his! I think He's about 400 lbs lighter than stock or something...

Kim, if you're eating yourself, weight should remain the same?!

You guys should see ViperBob's trunk!

He replaced the windshield washer tank which is HUGE and holds 20lbs of fluid. He has a tiny dry cell battery, which saved another 25 lbs. His trunk is like the grand canyon, vast, deep and empty!

Lol, It's a blast just reading you guy's posts!

Did you guys remove your bottom engine cover(tray)? I had the car on the lift earlier looking for a phantom rattle under the engine. I think that cover/tray has substantial weight. I'm sure if removed, it gives more needed cooling to the motor. Any reported damage from debri without this cover?

Princeton,

Nice list...that's some pretty aggressive savings! I'd be interested in what you've put back in, and their respective weights (e.g. seats, rollbar, fire system, RS carpet? etc.???). Thanks!

Edward
