Default 2016 / 17 Winter projects.... Whats yours?

With winter just around the corner (for me anyway) been working on the list of things that need to be done to the car, service items, upgrades, projects that were started and never finished etc..

Here is a brief list of what I am going to be working on, and a couple of teasers.
  • Engine and Tranny Drop: Engine check over, valve adjustment etc
  • Transmission Refresh: Still working on the budget for this one.... Not pretty.
  • LSD Rebuild (Guard Parts)
  • Brake Upgrade: Pics below
  • Wheel bearing replacement
  • Wheel stud upgrade (bullet head)
  • CV Rebuild
  • Vacuum pump for exhaust
  • Transmission oil cooler
  • Finish carpet/Interior strip and RS carpet Install
  • Race floor mats
  • Ceramic coat headers
  • Rebuild and reformat forgeline wheels (replace cracked center, change offset to clear new brakes.)
  • New rear swaybar bushings (melted the old ones hence ceramic for the headers)
  • 993 RSR Throttle linkage (Thanks Juha!)
  • + Other bits and pieces as I start digging in.....

Some Brake Teasers

My list consists pretty much only of maintenance and repairs:

- Oil change
- Replace remote battery
- Replace hood & deck lid shocks
- Replace broken frunk carpet clip
- Fix driver seat motor
- Fix sagging door pockets
- Fix turn stalk
- Fix alarm system malfunction (there is a short somewhere...)

And...

- Red seat belts - I've been thinking of doing this for some time but I'm not sure I want to spend $800 on it...

Want to remove and clean all ac servo's.
Not sure how realistic this is.

steven, what's a "vacuum pump for exhaust?"

TresDuro this weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus.
friday practice and saturday race is outer loop, east track, full track. race group is scored by points, time trial is combined time on all three tracks. sunday is full track all day. great chance to compete on three different track on the same day.
weather forecast is cool and sunny, no wind.
you should start driving now.

Intersting list
I'm curious about this one - Vacuum pump for exhaust

and also the wheel change, as far as I know you have one of the more aggressive wheel/tire fitments on a n/b, do keep us in the loop.

Interesting about the cracked wheel, one of my Forgelines cracked in the center section, I had both rears rebuilt w/ new centers.

I wish I could come on down, that sounds like a fantastic weekend, especially considering the 3 formats you get to run..... Hopefully next year I will make it to the PCA 3 day.

Exhaust Below.

I have GT3 Valves in the exhaust to use the different paths available in the stock center GT3 exhaust, I have found the engine due to various factors (Cam Overlap, ITB's etc) that I dont have enough vacuum to close the valves fully. Many modern cars use a vacuum pump in addition to engine vacuum for all the vacuum controlled items in the car.

I picked one up and tested it and it closes the valves perfectly, so need to do some wiring to my ECU and use that to control the valve just like the GT3, and have a "Sport" switch on the dash for those track days

The cracks were just in the rear wheels, could just make them out in the finish, sanded off the paint to find about 10 or so hairline cracks in one wheel and about 6 in the other.

The offsets of the forgelines never allowed me to run the tires I wanted, especially the rears, and now with the front brakes I need the wheel moved out about 5mm to clear, so I will have forgeline make new centers with some extra material on the hub mating surface so I don't need to use a spacer. Then change the rim outers to 1" so I keep the front offset manageable, will also move the inner barrel from the rear to the front to make the fronts 9" and redo the rears in a similar fashion, narrower outer by 1/2" and extra on the back space. Hopefully my calc's are correct and it will all work out nicely.

Default Stop Tech

Hi Bill,
Why these brakes, in lieu of different pads and/or rotors on the Brembo's?
Thanks, Fred

I did this mod (just the fronts) and it is one of my favorite visual upgrades. Every time I walk up to the car, I notice just a bit of the red seat belts.

I think you meant to ask me this one.

I have Stoptech's on the car at the moment (will be for sale soon) for a number of reasons. The replacement parts are quite inexpensive, Can get slotted rotors for front and rear, they last about 3 times as long as the 993 RS brakes I had in the past, which last about 2 times longer than stock 993 brembo's.

And I don't need 380mm front rotors and 6 piston calipers, however they were at a price I couldnt pass up... And they will look awesome

- Rusty bumper brackets

That's all that comes to mind... I might kick around the idea of doing plugs/wires but I might want to save that for when the weather is a bit warmer!
