993 cabriolet top frame parts?
So I woke up last night pondering a new project.
I have seen a couple of removable hardtops for the 993, but I have a hard time justifying the $5700 plus shipping and paint.
I think I can build one using scrapped OEM parts.
Right now this is just an exploration into the feasibility and cost.
If I can find a header bar and the rear surround or a complete frame that was damaged I can fab the rest. This could be interesting.

Details? How do you plan to execute? I used to have a 3series BMW cab with a factory hardtop - he hardtop was installed with the top down but this won't be possible with the 993 cab. Completely different situation here...
The way I see this the top has to be removed to prepare for the hardtop. Much like a Targa. So, what is your plan?

Right now the engineering is all in my mind. The rough plan is to use the header and rear frame loop as the mounting points. The intent is to next attach an OEM coupe roof panel. My guess is that this will take a bit of cut and splice. I am led to believe that the current offerings use targa B-pillars. The side windows may need to be lexan as well as the backlight.
Cemoto, expect a PM.
Thanks to all for the interest. This will likely be a slow moving project since this is simply for my own fascination and not a paying project.
And here my wife was thinking I was planning to redo the spare bathroom for her. This should be a lively discussion.

Holytin, pretty much like the DMorris concept. Yes the soft top will have to be removed, but should be a fairly straightforward swap out. I don't plan to make any permanent alterations to the body.

Maybe if I get really motivated I will attempt the hard tonneau as well.
