There are 2 versions of that part. Might be worth a check to see which part you have before ordering a new one.

Also...looks like a very simple swap and replace....even I can handle??! :) |
I think the two versions are split between MY '94-'95 and MY '96+. Since you have a 1996 I'm guessing youll have the second version, but if its been replaced in the past it could be the early version. The part number is stamped on the shroud somewhere, but I think its on the inside.
Swapping it is pretty easy. Some of the fasteners are a little tricky to reach, but if you have a good tool chest it shouldnt be bad. Also youll probably want to remove the blower box, or loosen it enough. Good luck. |

I replaced mine

This failure seems to be the most common failure on 993s and finding it is almost an initiation rite into 993-ownership. Your heart sinks when you see it.

Replaced mine today. Easy job thanks to all the info on this forum.

For future reference, if anyone were to actually do a search on this-It's not that tough to determine the proper part. The upward facing air vent with the grid in the top pic's LH side dictates the 993 part. If you don't have that, it's the 964 part.
