I am planning on attending, driving up from the SF Bay Area. I intend to "warm up" with some fun backroads on the way to Portland, so I am budgeting all of Friday September 16th for the drive up.

Great news, Matt.
Only concern is that since it's now 964 and 993, more cars may be more like an armada than a drive!
For those in need, consider a terrific hotel close to event Saturday AM at Rothsport Racing with Steve Weiner and Jeff Gamroth- Century Hotel, Tualatin, OR. There's a terrific restaurant attached, and both are in a quiet nice area with good, convenient parking.
Likely some "free" space at my house for several people and cars, also fairly close to Rothsport.

Here are answers to a couple FAQ's:

1. We will be starting our tour in Portland Saturday morning for a tech session with Steve Weiner. The address and time will be sent out later this month.
2. We will end our day in Seattle.
3. Our route is still be being planned but it will be good!

Is there a recommended place we should stay at in Portland & Seattle, preferably a group rate?

Anything in the metro area of Seattle and Portland will be close to all the festivities. As there will be mostly Seattle folks (likely staying in their own homes on Saturday night ) we don't have enough RSVP'ed needing a hotel to negotiate a group rate. I'll see if I can't find some recommendations for you though.
