I assume this is Adam Palanuk's design that he showed at the FD campsite during Rennsport V? At that time, his design was to 5-axis mill the fan out of aluminum for more accuracy than cast, and he based the design on a scan of the turbo fan - or at least that is what I remember. He talked about tweaking the blade design for better airflow at the time. Looked like an interesting project.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike, Adam Palanuk here.

Yes I did share a prototype fan at Rennsport. I cannot take full credit for the design as it has been an ongoing team effort over the last couple years. Everybody can be assured that development and testing have been taken seriously.

Steve will provide updates as the product is finalized.

Let me know when you need a vehicle for testing (-:

2) Use a much more durable material (instead of Mg) to eliminate blade cracking and related failures.

3) Maintain or improve Moment of Inertia to control power losses and ensure no belt issues.
Long time lurker here but just a big fan of Rothsport products. Do you guys have an ETA on when it'll be available in the market? Thx.

LOL,..I'm not Rothsport (although we are very close and coordinate on many projects). Testing and validation is underway and once thats completed, I'll post on my own website, on our FB Page, and here.

Let's complicate things a bit!
Make it variable while we're at it.
Then you lose these HP only when things get hot...Name: 10914251966_feaaa8401d_b.jpg

I've got loads of questions for you, Steve. I'll wait until the right time to get answers. Seems that the best way to assert the practicality of such a project is to improve on the airflow, as well as reduce weight/distribution for moment of inertia improvements, and improve durability. That way, with re-design for better airflow, it's something to everyone.

I've been told that the older turbo fans are of a different design and they provide increased flow compared to the ones in our Carreras. Can anyone speak to this?

Good plan.

The straight-blade fans as used on Turbo's from '76 to '97 most definitely flow more than the 3.6 (NA)'s curved blade ones which were designed to reduce drive-by noise.

Porsche knew that the turbocharged models needed reduced cylinder head temps to help prevent detonation and reduce cylinder temps for improved ring sealing.

Which leads to a question I've been holding (Due to myself feeling bad to add another question to the heap) as you have been bombarded already Steve.

Will there be a version for the TT?

Thanks, and best of luck!

Regards,

Al

Hi Al,

The TT doesn't need this at the moment; it already has a good fan. We may elect to offer a forged, billet aluminum version depending on demand.
