Model designation on 1996-1998 CS and C4S tach
I have recently seen a 96 Carrera 4S and a 98 Carrera S with no model designation in the lower portion of the tach face. Instead, only a large blank space there. Did these cars not have this designation or are these faces changed out? Thanks.

Some do, some don't and I know there's a formula but can't remember it.
I know first hand my 1997 C2S with factory aluminum dials did not come with the Carrera S designation.

Thanks. The 98 I mentioned also had the white dials and I assumed they were not original.
The 96 has black dials w/o the designation. Anyone have a known original of black w/o?

Three Wheelin'
Only the 97-98 C2S models got the "Carrera S" script only if they didn't order the aluminum/colored dials or the On board computer (OBC). Either of those options cancelled out the script.
The 4S never got the script from the factory.
The other possibility is people often change the gauge faces to something other than stock and would the loose the script. If you have a 2S with black dials, no OBC and no script it's been swapped. Pull the tach out and check to see if the date codes match all the other gauges.

I have the On board computer on my C2S and it has the script...but it's a tip in case that had anything to do with it.
