Duck vs. RS Tail
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about selling my 993, and I have two tails. A duck from Stratton and a RS that I also like.
I'm pretty sure I'll come back to a 993 in the future, and I'd like to keep one. I'm thinking about keeping the duck, but can't decide.
It seems that RS tails are more sought after, while ducks are for retro lookers like myself.
Thoughts?

Agreed!!
I just don't "get" the Duck Tail fitted to a 993, for the reasons that follow, but others do, so this is just one person's opinion, for what that's worth. As with any mod, it's a matter of taste, and it's your car, so have at it.
The 993 RS is indeed a narrow body WITH its 993 RS tail. The RS Tail is functional...it serves to nullify the inherent aerodynamic lift of the 911 shaped body. According to the PORSCHE SERVICE INFORMATION 96 TECHNIK 993 RS WKD 499-620, the 993 RS aero kit "The modifications made to the body (Front splitters, side skirts, RS Tail) have reduced lift values to almost zero at the same time as maintaining the same drag (0.33) as for the standard vehicle. At 270 kph (162 mph) front lift is reduced to a mere 40 Lbs , rear lift to 0.
The so called "duck tail" pales by comparison. The details on the somewhat limited function of the 70's technology "duck ducktail" are in Frere's book The 911 Story. It was revolutionary at the time but passe' these days. As we know it was never fitted to the 993 by the factory...that would be like fitting old school bias tires to a 993.
