Default Installing seat heaters on regular seats

Ok, so I have been searching using my Google-Fu and have found that it is possible to DIY install seat heaters. I myself am not that handy with leather DIY, so I have found a local upholstery shop to do it.

They want $300/seat or $600 to install them (parts & labor), has anyone of you guys recently done this? All the stuff I have found is a couple years old at best.

The hard back seat install is easy. Just will take half a day to do. Regular seats may be harder to do as I understand some of the foam is attached to the seat. Figure at $50 hour and parts cost of $50. The price may be reasonable.

That seems fairly reasonable, especially if it includes R & R of the seats.

That price seems a little high to me. Does that include new leather?

I bought an aftermarket seat heater kit, pulled my front seats out and took them and the heat kit to a local auto upholstery place. They recovered the seats in new leather and inserted the heat elements as I instructed with power pig tails in specific location, etc. I went back 4 days later picked up seats, re-installed in car and then had a buddy who is a former car stereo whiz wire them up. He tapped into a power source in console in front of shifter that is only hot when ignition is on. Little round dime size switches are on either side of console just in front shifter. Very clean install. The heat kit was $100 and I paid the upholstery guys $400.

400 per seat for new leather? Or is that both? Any pictures?

Be aware the seat wiring harness is prewired and live for heated seats. The plug already has pins designed to have the heater's wires soldered to. One can mount the heater switch to the panel covering the seat motors for a self contained install or the switches can be mounted off the seats as many do. Use the additional fuses provided with the kit as the fuse box fuse is shared for heating both seats and so requires a minimum 15 amp fuse that is a little too big to provide the best protection. For hard back seats installing heat is a fun DIY project.
