Keep it up Enso! Lots of pictures and labeling has always helped me when I remove an engine. Haven't needed to remove the one out of my 993 yet, but quite a few times with mid 80's Carrera's. Good luck always love the pictures!

I wonder how much things like this have of an impact. Basically the engine is wearing a fur coat. Were numbers on #3 (in the pic left top) any worse ?

Nice work, Glenn!

Good thing you caught that mouse nest.

I've attached a pic of a melted piston from a 993TT. The motor was found with a nest that blocked cooling air long enough to initiate detonation and then pre-ignition. Knock sensors don't retard enough to save things at that point.

This is something to be aware of since you really cannot see anything (without removing the fan housing) until the damage is done.

WOW pretty hot Steve i don't think the pink insulation will help with the cooling here

it'll be fun to see where the air is seeping from when i did the compression tests
I believe all the cylinders were leaking air but only from around the heads

Try PPIing that!
Scary stuff. I guess this is more likely with cars that sit in questionable garages?
