Windshield Install - San Diego
I have a large crack in my windshield and was wondering whether or not anyone had recommendations for installers in San Diego, preferably North County.
Thank you for your help.

I just went through this and it was a PIA. Fortunately insurance covered it as a road hazard.
I can't comment on installers local to SD, but FWIW I would suggest getting one of those track protection films. Less than a week after getting the new windshield a semi kicked something into it and the film absorbed the impact leaving only a small knick in the material. Saved me going through that mess again.

Unlike older 911 the 993 windsheild is held in with adhesive much like other cars. For the 993 the glass comes from Germany made by a supplier who also provided OE glass. For this reason probably most any national chain shop can do a competent job.
Has anyone experienced otherwise?

The place I used has either moved or gone out of business, which is a shame because they did good work. I can't remember what they called themselves, though. They were on Mission Gorge road under the overpass, where they now hold car auctions ...

Safelite did not center my windshield. It is far enough off center that the Porsche outer seal cannot fully cover the gap on one corner. I've seen this same thing on other 993s, installed by other shops, even those with Porsche glass and seals. It is an obvious installation error.
Not to mention, rust repair experts like 9m, think that errors in windshield installation are one cause of serious body rust.

993 series glass front & rear set w/eurethane
+1 to ... "Are you serious" ...
You see, surface rust development in the 993's front & rear windshield channel/cavity is highly probable. Between the Fall of 1998 and Spring of 1999 PCNA installed - reinstalled no less than 3 windshields in the first 6 months of ownership, post new car delivery; 3 new windshields not including the production windshield.
Rust was/had developed in the coupe's body cavity where the windshield glued. And rust in a coupe that had never experienced rain. The only water touching the car/windshield was from this owners bucket of soapy carwash water.
Don't kid yourself, rust development in either front or rear glass body cavity is possible, maybe even likely. In 2001 the coupe was flown back to Germany for a project my wife and I were on. Through this opportunity as visit to PAG's factory Werk 1 facility was in order. The Werk 1 shop installed yet another (4th) front windshield in an effort to cure the much problematic installation wiggle noise. Mission Accomplished. ... The very same windshield glass is installed today. Great care should be exercised when replacing the glass ..... Yeah, "Bob's" Glass company could get lucky ......
P.S. Post 993 production years saw the introduction of a "new and improved" seal surround & a 6 set of nylon alignment jig spacers for the windshield. (in use today) ..... PCNA and ultimately PAG paid a hefty price for the 993 productions "glazing" issues. In my case PAG and I settled; A check for $5,000., On the house 30K service at any dealership and extended the New Car Warranty an additional 2 years. In the MY98 911 (993) years the Porsche New Car Warranty was "unlimited miles/2 years"
