Default headlight assembly stuck

I can remove one headlight assembly but not the other. Locking lever in correct position; loosens unit but it does not come out. Hung up on something. Anyone experience similar problem. Any solutions other than more force?

Thanks. Bill

Hi Bill,

If you do need to apply a bit more force, you might try pulling it with a suction cup. The ones used to mount an aftermarket navigation unit might work well, if you have one handy. That way you could pull on the headlight and wiggle the release lever at the same time...

Sometimes they are finicky. You don't need to go bonkers on it, but it does take a little persuasion sometimes.

This will involve a little more work but you can pull the wheel liner off to see what it's stuck on, and perhaps gently push it out.

It does not take much to cause it to hang up. Not long after buying my car I was upgrading the headlights and had problems removing the passenger side. Ended up being a fillet of clear coat built up around the bottom of the gasket. Apparently the previous owner had some paintwork done and the idiot who painted it thought it easier to mask the area than to just remove the assembly, which would have been quicker and easier.

Two suggestions: Try utilizing the lever while also pulling and pushing the headlight manually to assist in making sure it travels freely. And when removing the light make sure the lever is in the correct position pointing straight up so you can slide it out freely. Good luck and keep us posted.

Be sure to spray some Teflon lube on the tracks and rub some around the electrical plug seal when putting it back in allowing for a much easier reinstall and subsequent removals.

Just went through this myself. Make sure you're pulling the assembly straight out and not at an angle. You'll frustrate yourself all day doing that...
