How to extend battery life without tender?
So here's the situation....I live in New York and park my car in a public garage so I don't have access to an outlet to plug in a battery tender. I travel for work so I often (sadly) am not able to drive my 993 for extended periods of time.
If I don't drive the car for about 2 weeks (sometimes a little less, sometimes more) the battery is ALWAYS dead. Not completely dead...alarm is still running, lights will go on when I turn the key, etc. But when I try to start, I get the fast clicking and lights flashing with no start. Luckily I keep my trusty old Volvo in the same garage and have gotten pretty quick with jump starting, but it's still a pain.
I know the battery life on these cars tends to be short, but has anyone had any luck extending the life? Tricks or a good type of battery to replace mine with? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd like to avoid jump starting the car every time I want to drive it.
Thanks!

Have you checked for "battery drain", 2 weeks is a very short period for your battery to go flat. My car very often sits for 2 weeks with no problems starting.
You could also try to disconnect the battery, even install a disconnect switch.

As crg53 writes, it's surprising your battery drains so quick. I also leave my car for periods longer than that with no issue. For 7 yrs I kept my car in long term storage (it was in a different country) and after the first year the battery drained because I didn't disconnect it over a many months period (like 10 months in one shot). I bought a new battery and put a disconnect switch at the battery. Every time it went back into hibernation the battery was disconnected. When I would use it next I just connected it, the car started like I had put it away the day before and off I went.

Concur on battery drain. Something's sucking up the current. Once you find and correct the culprit, you should be good to go. A hidden disconnect switch is a good idea but would negate the alarm horn but, then again, noone ever pays them any attention.

Thanks for the replies guys. Glad to hear that the life should be longer/can be extended, less happy to hear that I've got a problem I need to solve. Guess my next goal will be finding that problem.

yes.
my alarm is on when my car is parked at the mall or on the side of PCH in Malibu.
but, when i won't be driving it for a while,
i'm lucky in that, it's going where it is extremely remote, someone would ever bother it.
unfortunately, as we've learned,
if you disable your alarm, your 993 probably needs to be locked inside a vault.

I don't even remember what this thread is about, but could you please comment in every thread, and never change your avatar? Thanks in advance.
