Default 993 Nox too High

What can I do to reduce the NOX - levels of my car? For emissions testing?

Really good highway run before the test, pref ~30 minutes total and try and avoid gas with ethanol in it. I have read of few studies where even 10% ethanol in the fuel adds to NOX levels.

Just the 15mph nox failed =/..The other passed.

I wonder if I should mix in 100 octane. (like 10 gallons)
CA has 10% ethanol in all its gas now ...

Car has newish plugs, new wires (OEM), new rotors, new caps;

I wonder if I should re-replace the plugs that were 10,000 miles ago.

I also have new 02 sensors I can put in...Smog tech suggested that.

This sounds like it could turn into an endless money pit. Time to dump the car.

I'll offer $18K sight unseen.

Seriously though, definitely get the cats as hot as possible, think "Italian tune-up". And yeah, new O2 sensors just might help.

Jay J,
You did not specify if you properly warmed the car/cats prior to test. If you didnt spend at least 30 mins of good warm up time, prior to test, I would do so prior to repeating the test. My bet is, as others have stated, you will have no trouble passing if properly warmed. Please post if your car passes when warmed up properly...Thx!

BTW, what did your car blow @ the 15 mph nox, and what is the stated limit?

Car was warm prior to the test;
Also the tech made sure the car's oil temp was about 3/5 the way up.

Max is 430 at 15mph and measured was 1070 for NOX...everything else passed HC and CO
and 25 mph measured 705 NO and the max is 717 NO

High NOX is either a lean mixture or a bad catalytic converter. I would bet there is an air leak after the air meter.

Perfect. I'd totally concur.

I should probably go through all of this I'm thinking.. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...k-testing.html
The "collapsing T" wasn't bad on mine but I did it while doing the caps and rotors anyway.

Thank goodness I don't have to sweat this any more. Sapphire always passed CA emissions, but it's nice to know she never has to again.

Good luck, I'd get some carb cleaner and start looking for leaks in the upstairs area first.
