Default Pics of 993 sun roof needed.

I just had the sunroof seal replaced...it doesn't look right to me. The mechanic insists the install is correct. I am not so certain.

I would like some pics of the sunroof from a 993 car that illustrates a correct installation. I can then show the mechanic how a correct install looks. Any help will be appreciated.

BTW, they charged me $783 in labor to install the seal @ $120 an hour. According to my calculator, that's 6.5 hours of labor, 80% of an 8 hours day. For $783 the job needs to be perfect

Thanks in advance,

Martin

its simply glued to the roof, the hard part is keeping the seal evenly level across. should protrude ever so slightly above the roof line/sunroof gap. i forgot the measurement, its like 1-2mm or something. edges are tucked down and IN. (front seal)

EMBPilot - I've noticed that seam, but it's not on my list of things to fix on my car. If I own the car long enough to do a complete restore, then it might get addressed. For a properly functioning daily driver, it's irrelevant, at least to me.

wouldnt bother me either, just pointing it out as i wouldnt accept a seal that was professionally installed like that.

i agree with you, as DIY i dont think it makes a difference.

There are dozens and dozens of threads here and elsewhere about how to replace the sunroof felt, you really don't need people to go out and take pictures. Just do a search.

As I read below....

"There are dozens and dozens of threads." I'll just start looking. It should take that long to find just what I am looking for. Thanks for the tip.

I have seen friends cars get similarly charged for changing the felts. The book must state 5-6 hours.

I have my mechanic friend do it while I was working on something else. It took no longer than 90 minutes to remove the sunroof, apply both seals, and put it back together. I cannot understand why shops charge so much for this repair.

^^ maybe because is a business and must pay the acre piece where is sitting the shop? Plus, just a thought...not sure if this is WAY overpriced or just expensive for such labor.
