^ If you are in the US, DAB will be of no use.

There's actually one more important difference, which is that the TRD7412 has a dimmable display, unlike the TR7412, according to this:
https://www.continental-automotive.c...ure_EN.pdf.pdf

I've recently ordered a TRD-model to replace a TR712UB-BU whose display I find way too bright, and will report back on how the dimming goes.
I hadn't found this information in any of the install threads, so thought it would be worth posting.

Installed mine yesterday evening, got everything from Tore and after a bit of struggle to remove the old unit, it was pretty straightforward. I have not checked if the radio works (apart from the two plugs from the harness kit, I have not plugged any antenna cable). Bluetooth works great and original speakers will be enough for now. Pretty happy with this upgrade given the cost!

I got the CONTINENTAL CDD7416UB-OR from Tore and had it installed and as a radio, seemingly it's quite deep and was up against some of the gubbins deep in the dash so my shop put a spacer around it to pull it out from the fascia a bit. Looks great though.

I'm also having the problem whereby the radio is always off when I restart the car.

I didn't install the radio myself....what is the easiest way to address this issue? Mess with the wiring as it is now or purchase the ISO and modify it that way?

The Continental head units needs permanent 12V (Terminal 30) on ISO A pin 7, and switched 12V on ISO A pin 4. These are reversed in the original Porsche car harness. You can either modify the wire positions original A connector, or buy an ISO power harness for this purpose to avoid any changes of the original harness. The Continental user manual show all details on the head unit connectors.
If the above is swapped, the unit will not turn on when switching on the ignition, and it will shut off automatically after 20 minutes of operation.
If connected properly, you shall see a row of <<<< characters in the radio LCD when turning off the ignition.
Cheers,
Tore

Hey, anyone who has their radio out might want to make my easy fog/DRL mod, which involves a small wiring change to the fog light switch wiring above the radio.

It lets you turn the fog lights on and off with the fog light switch, independent of the headlight switch.

If you leave the fog light switch "on," they'll come on automatically when you start the car.

Keeping this thread going.......Got my radio from Gert a while back and finally got around to installing it. Really a great upgrade and it looks completely OEM. Sounds great too. I highly recommend it.

Does anybody know specifically how to remove one of these from my dash? I want to install a ground loop isolator but I see the head unit and the bezel but it's not clear where the supplied keys fit to release it from the dash.

Thanks

Has anyone had any difficulties in the USB playing only one random song repeatedly on the TR7412UB-OR? I've tried various drive sizes and manufacturers (4GB - 32GB) formatted in FAT32 and the unit will only play the same random song over and over. I've had no other issues with this unit but one of the main reasons for choosing this one was the ability to stop using an iPOD Touch.

Thanks!

Hi Paul,
Did you install the woofers in the original housing, so removing the factory woofers by these or removed the entire speaker system and made a custom (MDF?) housing? And the tweeters, in the factory enclosure or also something custom?

Hi gents! First must admit I am not really keen in car stereo installation.
I have a ‘94 Mercedes SL with an old Becker and would like to upgrade with one of this Continental head unit with Bluetooth which still has a vintage look.
being the a car a roadster an amplifier and a subwoofer would be appreciated! But in the specific I do not see any Amp out source.
has anyone installed an Amplifier with this Continental? If so how it is done? Maybe any other head unit with retro look to consider? Any suggestion?
thanks so much

Anyone figure out how to make the clock as the default display? Can it?

Have you guys seen this? Classic! Maybe not quite period for the 993 but certainly older Porsches.
