Default Parking brake reset didnt work.

Guys need some help with next steps. Just tightened both rear parking brakes by tightening the pads all the way and backing off 5 clicks. Then adjusted the cable and tightened it to two clicks and it feels solid.

Everything adjusted properly and brakes top out around 4 clicks, however it's not holding the car on a hill. I still have to drop it into gear and use the gears to prevent it from rolling.

What are my next options? Since the adjustment didn't work?

The final adjustment step is to pull up the lever 2 clicks and adjust the nut on the cable turnbuckle until you can just barely turn the rear wheels by hand, did you check that? If you can't adjust it correctly with the turnbuckle you may need to re-do the tightening screw adjustment per the shop manual.

Also, have you pulled the rear discs off to check how much lining is left on the ebrake shoes? New they are 4.5mm, should replace them at 2mm. Doesn't hurt to clean up the mechanism and adjusting screw to get rid of rust and dust while you're in there.

Tip from local indie to bed rear shoes in;- gently apply handbrake at about 20mph ( not on freeway or in traffic). Dust and rust accumulate on friction surface of disc and as parking brake is normally only used when stationary those surfaces loose their effectiveness.
Strangely my 944 parking brake has always worked better than the 993 and the mechanism is almost identical.

…….and I thought I was the only one with this issue. Really have to yank hard on the e brake to hold the car but still but it in gear.

Haven't pulled the rear disks off yet. I'll give that a try. Have no idea how to redo the tightening screw so I hope it doesn't come to that.

Thanks

I recent rebuild the park brake system. The old drum brake pads were glazed probably due to miss adjustment some time in its life. With new pads and cleaned parts, the car holds even on my steep hill with the factory settings. Pads were dirty cheap since every 911 uses the same pads.

The parking brake arrangement is a bit confusing when looking at it for the first time, but its pretty intuitive after you spend a few minutes with it.

On my 86' and 96',the last click to positivly lock the parking brake on an incline has always required considerable hand pulling force before or after shoe & cable adjustment.

Prior to pulling things apart, I would try as post #3 suggests. If that doesn't change the effectivness of the ebrake, then pull the rotors, sand the drum surfaces clean and install new drum brake pads.

Of course, more force on the ebrake handle is not the solution. ; )

Raise your hand if (at least) one of your weekly jobs coming in was doing front drum brakes on some POS. And then a 356, with twin wheel cylinders are a whole 'nother dimension.

But as a 911 parking brake is, when you actually need to get in there to do something, consider the 914 setup.
