Default Has anyone had to deal with a jammed sunroof?

Hey guys,

Last week my sunroof cocked sideways and jammed during opening. I had to manually close it and have left it closed since then.
Has anyone delt with this before? Any tips on what the issue might be and how to proceed to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. Mine was due to a broken deflector hinge... 911-564-127-00-M100. I ordered two and, since there were other plastic parts probably just as old, I replaced them as well.

This will happen to every 993. Could be the cables or, as mentioned, some of the plastic stuff.
I have no patience and would go pro.

Could be one of many things. You will have to take it out and inspect the whole mechanism.

Mine is currently out after not closing properly. I discovered that the aft linkage had disconnected and I was missing the shoe which helps it to ride up and close. Luckily the link bolt, nut and washers were all lying at the back. It's not a bad job, just protect the paint with masking tape and delve in. The more you get into it the more you will learn.

Good luck and if you need some advice then don't hesitate to ask, any of us.

Mine would jam halfway during the opening or closing sequence. It would get stuck at an angle and hit the lower part of the roof (aft of the opening). It turned out to be just years of gunk accumulating in the tracks. Nothing broken...
A thorough cleaning with some wd40, then some bicycle degreaser, and finally re-lubricating the entire mechanism (including wiping the cables) with some silicone spray did the trick. Good as new...
Easy to take apart, but a pita to clean the tracks and the sliders.

Agree that it's not a horrible job and that once you're in there you will understand how they work and how to adjust shims etc. Search and search some more and you will see how to remove the guts. Replacing the felt? That's a horrible job.

I had this problem on my 86' Carrera. The sun roof drive is of the same design. In my case one of the little cars that runs on the track came loose from the cable. Working on the sunroof is not too difficult. I would replace the soft seal parts and the deflector plastic parts as they are probabaly worn or quite brittle respectively by now.
