Default Oil Pressure Sender Question

I am pretty sure my oil pressure sender is shot. The oil pressure gauge pegs to 5 when I turn the key to position 2 with the engine not running, and it stays pegged at 5 at idle and while driving. The car is running/operating fine otherwise.

My question is whether this is something that can wait to be replaced later this summer when I have the car in for maintenance, or should I have this fixed right away.

Thanks.

Personally, I would wait. There is a ton of SAI junk in the way of getting to sender.

Perhaps you could just ask a shop to do an oil pressure test in the interim? That way you know the pressure is healthy until you go in for more extensive maintenance later this year.

Huh? Are we talking about oil level or oil pressure? Oil pressure is kinda critical...but there is a warning light for it as well.

My oil pressure gauge is doing the same thing. Has been that way for several months. I will get to it this summer.

You either have an open circuit or the oil pressure sensor has failed.

And having sufficient oil as per the dipstick is no guarantee of oil pressure.

My bad, it's my oil level gauge that has a mind of its own, the oil pressure gauge is fine.

Has anyone changed out the oil pressure sending unit with engine in car lately? i've seen a lot of posts on topic, but no commentary on how to do with engine in.

Mine was working fine, but being a good boy scout when I had my engine out for maintenance I thought might as well go ahead an replace mine as it took 2 minutes to do. However, since then it pegs at 5 even when just turning the ignition on. I never opened the engine, so its got to be a bad unit - especially based on all the threads I have seen.

Pain to get to, but looks like if I take off the MAF and some of the SAI equipment, I can probably get to it. Anyone done this and have any tips...last thing I want to do is pull off more stuff than I need to.

Thanks.

yes, you need to get a 22mm crowfoot...take off air filter box, MAF, and passenger side intake...PITA but be patient and can be done...make sure the crowfoot is the thin kind

That is a pretty easy DIY! But buy the 964 sender not the 993 one! They are the same but for the conection in the end of the wire that is not in the oil tank so to speak! The 964 one i a lot cheaper! Just cut the wire in the middle and fit the wire from the old sender and You have made like $100 in one minute! 😀
