noah, that is serious food for thought. because any build of this nature is serious five figures, especially for those of us who can't do the rebuild ourselves (i.e., you, trophy, mike, robin, etc.) admittedly, i am way out of my league here, but from what i understand the biggest challenge with the 9M heads is the new mapping. he's running a 95 OBD I car as am i, and i don't know who or what the $$$ would be to get the 95 ECU reflashed (or replaced with a MY96/97 ECU?) to work with the 9M heads and pass emission testing. thoughts?

Just to be clear I totally understand that the $5-6k+/- cost of the 109 3.8 P and C plus case work could have been put towards head and intake work with stock P and C for a similar +/- results. . That aside I do want the torque I am seeing in Bill's charts as I will see the impact there more as a daily driver.
I am doing a full stock rebuild on top of the 3.8 P and C, RS cams plus a few key extras with all new bearings and misc wear parts, bolts etc etc. In the end I will have a really solid motor that will last a long time and be even more powerful that stock.

i believe noah is running a flashed 97 ECU on his, so it can work without motec.

I am dropping the car off first thing Monday for the engine out and tear down process to get started. I am really looking forward to this project and I will be updating you as the process is underway.
Here a few photos of the car, starting from 08 when she had under 90k miles with the previous owner.

Corrected and uncorrected I believe. I found those in an old thread from the previous owner who posted them here. I have a corrected dyno sheet from later with the Steve Wong chip that was right at 250. It is a strong runner.

The engine came out very quickly today and most of the disassembly was done. We got a late start, so I was surprised about how far they got These are just a few iPhone photos to get us started until the high quality still photos and video are ready.
The backs of the intake valves are very clean, but you can see the exhaust valves have a lot of carbon buildup. The valve guides are worn of course, but nothing catastrophic. The leak down is very good, even better than my PPI 2 years ago which was surprisingly good for a 125k motor at the time! Since I bought the car from a guy who only kept it a few months (the rennlist and PCA member who daily drove the car for years sold it to this guy) it probably had different oil (I use Amsoil) and that may account for the leak down actually improving. All of this points to a really good chance most of the parts are in good shape!
