Excited to see this! Thanks for sharing, I just bought myself a 1991 964 C4, planning to work on it after I figure out what need to be done!

So now that you've had it awhile...worth it? Considering doing mine.

Ken,
Can you elaborate a little here? Where exactly would you spend money, assuming the engine already needed a rebuild anyway, and assuming P/C don't need replacing, etc.

I'm leaning towards NOT a 3.8, but YES to cams and perhaps valves. But still researching what a NOT 3.8 but a little more than stock really is.

Great project you have going on there.
Now that you have had the car and upgrade for some time, do you have any comments on experience of the upgrade, longtivity of the parts and how it is to drive? Like a short review of the work and end result would be nice

I am about to start the shopping and upgrade myself, and my list is much like yours on this project.

Ps, Is this your car?

cheers,
Anders

The video is the same car. I bought it from Mike over a year ago and have put about 4k miles as my daily driver. Compared to my previous stock 993, this car is way more responsive. As much as I appreciate the extra displacement and knowing the high quality parts used in the motor rebuild, another reason it feels more responsive is the regear which he had done after the engine build. If you search on Mike's posts there are a few threads on the re-gear. Its a joy to accelerate and stay within the power range without having to really wind up the motor like I did with my stock 993. The rebuild has over 40k miles, its been reliable and has burned less than a 1/2 quart of oil in over 3k miles,

Great thread but didn't see anywhere what a build like this cost?

A lot more then in 2015 and while you are in there on a 25+ year old car, even more. 25 year old air cooled engine builds/rebuilds that change displacement easily start at 30k base for parts alone (done right) and will end up past 60k as slippery slope is encountered...
