1996 993 key remote does not work
Greetings, my push button key remote will not open nor lock the car, so I can not start it. New battery installed, the red indicator light shines, but no reaction from the system. It had been getting increasingly slow to react over the last few weeks, now dead. I opened and cleaned the little circuit board with a camera cleaning brush, checked everything visually. I have only one remote.
Thoughts?
Thanks much!

You can unlock the door by using the key and turning ccw while pulling in the handle
Wear ear plugs, the alarm will trigger
After it stops including the light flashing you can try inserting the key in the ignition and attempting to disarm the immobilizer
It may take a couple tries

Did you test the output of the new bat prior to installing? If less than fresh and fully charged, Ive seen "new" batteries fail to operate.
Just because the LED light operates, does not mean that the battery is fully charged...It takes very little voltage to power the LED.
You may also want to remove the circuit board from the case and clean it with some electrical contact cleaner, but of course, remove the battery first!

I'm interested in the solution as well. I have one key that work. The original one with the key that comes out like a swiss army knife. I got a new one from Porsche with the separate key and imobilizer. Doesn't work even after changing the battery?

You do realize that you have to program your new fob to the immobilizer in your car, right? They don't work right out of the box...

I’m dealing with this issue at present... sry frustrating. Bright red light from key fob with new battery, but no response from car. The car was on a battery tender, so think the car battery is good. Anyone solve this problem?

More information please, year of car? Is the fob original that previously worked with the car. Does your central door lock work? Have you disconnected your battery recently? Any other seemingly unrelated symptoms?

I went through the same issue a few years ago. My fob required me to be closer and closer for it to disarm my immobilizer, to the point where it wasn't effective right next to the receiver (outside the car). If you've changed your battery, with no effect, it's time to swap out the fob. A number of folks helped me, so the thread I started wound up being a reasonable source of info.

Maybe two months ago I had same trouble, so bought a 2-pack of new batteries (A23), installed new battery and worked. Haven’t touched car since, until this afternoon and same thing happens...fob lights, but no response from car. Swap second battery from pack, which have a 2021 use by date, and no difference.
Car has been on battery tender and when key installed and turned, all dash lights very bright.
Could the fob be done? If so, I’ll buy new fob, but how challenging will it be to program without a functioning fob on hand?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My experience with a non-working remote that previously worked turned out to be the central locking module (located under the passenger seat) going bad. Swapped it out and all worked as usual.

It doesn’t seem like the fob is communicating at all with the car. No clicks, nothing. My car is essentially dead until I figure this out. Is the CLM embedded in immobilizer or a separate unit that can be changed independently?
To be thorough, I’ll buy new fob batteries and check car battery voltage today.
Thanks again.

Central Locking module under the front passenger seat..... it seems is the culprit ....

Interested in hearing how your situation is resolved. My remotes work but only from very short distances. Got a new one from ECU Doctors and changed batteries, still same situation. Seems to sometimes be easier or harder with no apparent reason. Radio interference I wonder? Central Locking Unit? Not sure.......

Interesting! They claimed that their unit had a significant range improvement over the Porsche original remote.
