Default Heacock Insurance - Switched from Leland West

A quick plug for my 993's new insurance provider. In a previous post I mentioned that I met Heacock at their booth at the Amelia Island Concours.

Within a few days I had a competitive quote for my 993's insurance and at an agreed value that (finally) matches what the car is worth. I was never able to get this level of cooperation from Hagerty (three years ago) and lately Leland West.

Heacock's staff was very helpful and incredibly prompt.

Hopefully I will never have to make use of their very good customer service. I think they are worth a look if anyone is evaluating their 993 coverage.

Sadly they also require you have daily drivers other than the classic.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll contact them about my 993tt. State Farm just raised the value to $80k on my car! Was probably good a year ago. Not so much today!

Yes, a year is a long time ago in the 993 price world.

Even if a DD is required are you able to drive the 993 to work? If I head into the office on a sunny day or some random Saturday I still want to be covered.

State Farm raises my agreed value any time I ask.

It seems a huge disadvantage (besides the hoopla and conditions) to the agreed value is that you need to monitor it yearly. What happens when you get busy and leave your turbo at 80k with agreed value and then it's a total loss? That would really suck.

It does seem from what Mike posted that Heacock may be one of the better ones to deal with if you can live with the restrictions. Sorry to take away from his plug. I would start there if I was looking.

Conversely, what would you have if you did not have an "agreed value" policy, in the event of a catastrophic incident?

KBB or NADA valuation?

Paying attention seems to go hand in hand in owning a vehicle of this nature.

Thanks for the post, Mike!

That's a great question and one each of us with a normal policy should ask their agent. I was happy with their answer. If I had an S or a turbo, I might feel a little differently, there'd be more at stake for sure, but with my sweet C2 I'm happy with their answer.

That said, the first thing I would encourage anyone to do if facing a total loss with a regular policy would be to hire an independent appraiser.

Thanks Mike,

Because of you and Heacock I'm saving 800 bucks/year and got my agreed value of $130k!

I guess I was getting ripped of before!

That's good news and a fast changeover. That was one of the things that impressed me was their responsiveness. That was never my experience with Hagerty or LW.

That is one beautiful 993TT.

Thanks!

Great service! I can see why it's not for everybody with restrictions on mileage and some other stuff! But fits me perfect!

Funny, both Heacock and Leland West use American Modern as Underwriters.

Let me guess...Haggerty?

Funny, both Heacock and Leland West use American Modern as Underwriters.
Actually, American Modern is American Family Home (AFH); check the top of your policy.

That's interesting stuff...I used to unsure through American Modern (AFH), directly; and went to LW with the same coverage, for $150 less per yr. Now I am still insured with LW, only my agreed value is $50k, and I am still paying less than my coverage directly with AFH, when the agreed value was stated at $36k!

Go figure...There must be serious mark-up in auto insurance, and going directly to the underwriter has no advantage, other than higher profit margins for said underwriter. Whatever the market will bear.

So it would seem to me that the middleman (LW, Heacock, Barrett-Jackson endorsed) makes all the difference in the world, despite the underwriter being one in the same.

At this time I would like to retract any and all previous comments regarding agreed value insurance and eat some crow Thanks Mike for sharing Heacock. I signed up with them today. Great experience. One thing missing from the standard policy imo was safety glass coverage. For a small fee that was able to be added. If you have any questions just ask them - they had excellent customer service.
