993 rear engine fan without CCU ( AC)
hello, 993 - model 1995 C4
I am new here. Need help my english is not good but probably better than your portuguese.
1º - I don´t have my CCU unit monted ( waiting for a new one), please anyone confirm that rear engine blower, (the one who makes additional engine refrigeration), doesn´t work without the CCU.
2º - Can I drive the car without the rear additional refrige fan?
Thanks.

If you're talking about the AC engine mounted compressor, it will not run if you CCU is not hooked up in your dash. To be absolutely sure you can remove AC belt and then it won't even spin pulley on compressor. If the compressor is removed from engine, make sure you seal up lines as much as possible. Contaminants will damage your whole system if those lines are left open. Hope this helps

Hi Miguel, welcome to Rennlist.
The rear engine blower is indeed controlled by the CCU. This fan has two functions, pushing hot air to the cabin, and to do extra cooling of the engine. I will probably miss the cabin function more than the engine cooling. However, beware, the CCU is also in charge of the oil cooler fan, this would worry me more when driving in a hot environment.
See details on the rear fan operation here.
Cheers,
Tore

thank you very much.
YEs I am without the CCU. For the time being it is not hot in portugal. About 18/20 celcius. i will drive only few miles before I have the new CCU. Thats what I want to be certain. The fact that I can still drive the car.
I know the old CCU can be rapair but I prefer to buy a new one and sell the other one to someone that want to repair and stay with the unit.
I have 3, 911 S from year 1970/73 and 3, 356, this is my first 993 c4. So many things to see and repair in cars with some tecnology. I almost don´t have problems with the others and when I have, they are minor things.
thanks again. Many thanks for you quick answer.

Driving will probably be of no problem unless you race/drive hard. Keep an eye on the oil temperature to be sure.
I am very interested in buying your old CCU. Please contact me, you have disabled/not activated your Personal Messaging here on Rennlist.

the old CCU was working, i am sure it was minor thing but I don´t trust the electrcist here where I leave to repair it.
NO cold air, and the 2º button was switching on and of. I already have read the Porsche 964 and 993 HVAC details but don´t know anyone to repair.

I'm no expert, but it seems like:
"NO cold air" - usually just the system needs to be recharged and possibly leak tested.
button issue - might simply need electrical contact cleaner (once known as TV tuner cleaner) to fix the intermittent button, or a new button. Search some posts here on RL for more info, as I do remember seeing intermittent button issue discussed sometime.
