How does Porsche choose/rotate colors?
I've been looking at some of the picture threads about 993 colors and wondered how Porsche chooses which colors to offer in which years. Is it based on popularity of colors?
If, for example, I look at the current offerings for the 911 and Cayman my reaction is that there are no amazing colors. A couple of whites, a couple of blacks, two browns, 2 silvers and a grey, etc.
Where are the Iris Blues, Aubergine, Meteor Grey, Ossi, Gulf Blue, Grand Prix White, Can Can Red, Current Plum?
Does Porsche expect us to paint to sample?

They go with buyer market. Black, red, white, silver are the biggest sellers. Beyond that, something like Mexico blue is special order, the porsche individual is basically how you spec a porsche if you're really a porsche nut. Most people that buy them are buying for the name not the history and what they are
Can can was an interior color btw.

Most all design studios have a "color and trim" department who's sole purpose is to research and promote interior and exterior color options/choices for vehicles in development. Porsche might not necessarily had a specific department but they surely had a dedicated staff who worked along side of the designers to come up with the VAST variety of color and trim options for the 90's 911's.
