Default Crest in eye

I just installed a horn crest that is stuck on by 3m double sided tape. i bought the crest off ebay and looks great but am a little worried about it in event the air bag deploys where will the crest end up. Does the horn cover flip up or down to allow the airbag out?

I have a loaner Boxster for the weekend and the stock wheel comes with a Porsche crest smack in the middle of the airbag. Apparently Porsche isn't worried about this issue too much.

P.S. The Boxster is a pretty fun car.

From personal experience, the cover flips _down_ (assuming you are you are pointed straight) when the airbag deploys on a 993 steering wheel. Even so, I'm not sure I'd want another projectile like a crest in the mix; the airbag explosion isn't exactly a gentle process. Your choice! (but I wouldn't do it)

Regards,

The newer factory steering wheel with the factory-installed crest has certainly been designed so that the crest won't be a problem -- it HAS to be designed that way. Adding a crest with 3M tape to a wheel that was NOT designed with a metal crest over its airbag is a completely different story. The airbag comes out of the wheel at well over 100mph. Personally, I wouldn't want to be near a taped-on metal object that could go anywhere.

do new airbag covers have stuck on crests or are the cliped or screwed on?
if the are bag flips down than basic physics would say the crest would fly downward? a lot better than up toward you face.

Will the whole cover will fly to your face when the bag deploys?
Answer: NO.

As Knute said, the cover flips down, so will your crest. If not sure about the tape, clue it with some heavy glue.

So if it is ejected at 100-200 mph on a downward path from the airbag cover, what part of your body would it most likely impale?

Just wondering...
