928 sport seats to 993 softback sport seats?
Hi,
I currently have a set of late 928 sports seats I put up for sale but i'm now thinking that I could possibly get them converted to 993 softback.
From what I see, shape is really simillar. Current differences is the stitching near the headrest and obviously the seat back insert & bottom insert (what's in gray).
Leather from sport seat kit for a 993 goes for 1350 / pair.
Seems like I could have a projet.
Anyone BTDT want to comment?

I think they will work , the only difference like you say is the pattern on the center pieces , here's pictures of my 95 with soft back sport seats so you can see the difference .

The part number for the hardware (i.e. the frames and mechanicals) are identical for all softback sport seats across 944/928/968/964/993. Oddly enough, the foam part number for those earlier 928 seats is the same as the 993 seats. Not sure how they got the "ribs" in the centers with the same foam?
You can recover them in the 993 style leather and essentially have the same seat as would have been factory installed. My only concern is the foam in those centers, if they've cut grooves in there or added tack strips or something you may need to modify the foam.
I've got 964 softback sport seats in mine, I plan on doing the same thing and adding the 993 leather but these were in too nice a shape to mess with. Its too bad because the only differences are the seam type (early seats used piping, 993 had French seam) and the stitch pattern in the centers. Yours also appear to have good leather that could be dyed whatever color you need.

Sorry my mistake, I was looking at 968 part numbers.
Your seats do have a different part number for the foam. You'd need to change the foam or modify it to make them work with 993 leather. The OEM foam is $$$$ and I believe in some cases not available, probably better to just glue in pieces and shape to make it work.
