Default Tick Tick - Yes another ticking quesiton

Seems I have a very small ticking sound coming from the lower driver side of the engine. The interesting part is that it doesn't start ticking until the engine has been running for at least 1 minute. This is leading me to believe that it is exhaust related, not lifter related.

Thoughts?

I think the other way. If it were exhaust my experience would lead me to believe the exhaust leak would seal up after heating up.

Whereas with lifters, as the oil heats up and thins out a tad the lifter seals may allow the thinner oil past and not be as efficient.

I have the same noise, it's just barely noticeable and comparing to other 993 folks mine seems the same. One guy I talked to replaced all his lifters and it got better.

Plug wires (loose or old) also make ticking sounds so don't rule that out.

Mine does that every once in a while. 10 minutes of driving and she is purring like a kitten. Never had an issue.

Hi I had the same and my turbo is at the workshop where we found one defective lifter which some times made noise and other didn't I tried changing oil, drove the car hard to see if it would go away but now I know the liter somehow has a play on the part with the swivel were it contacts the valve I will let you know when it's all done if I still have any issues.

I've battled a tick from the same location, all new lifters didn't solve it. Feared the worst that valve guides were getting noisy, did another leak down test and numbers are perfect.

I've come to the conclusion I need louder exhaust and I need to worry less.

For reference, my previous 86' 911 had a repetitive valve ticking sound. Somtimes it was loud, sometimes it was very soft. It never went away. Car ran strong during its tenure in my garage. I sold it with 150K miles on it. May have been dirt in a valve seat? Never sorted it out and never had a performance issue of any kind. You know the line, “accept the things I should not fix, have courage to fix the things I must and have the wisdom to know the difference”.
