Broken belt severed my AC Compressor wiring

Broken belt severed my AC Compressor wiring
Lovely. Threw a belt and replaced it. Recently I was out driving and noticed my AC was not blowing cold air. Openned the engine bay and upon closer inspection discovered that my belt severed the wires going into the (I assume) clutch on the AC compressor - and of course, it severed them behind the pulley, somehow, so little to no room to work on them...
Did a quick search and found the compressor costs a fortune. Pondered taking it off and tearing it down to get in and replace the wires. Then decided to attempt a MacGyver and heated up my trusty soldering iron, stripped the wires as best I could, tinned them, got them close to one another and soldered them together, then used a liquid electrical tape product and painted the exposed wires with black tar that supposes to be reasonable electrical tape once it dries.
Question to the forum is this: if this fails to work, how hard is it to get in, pull the AC pulley and get access to the wires to replace?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...612102-M11.jpg $313 on pelican. I have been able to see them about 200-250 other places. Just haven't jump off yet to do it.

Not difficult to R&R a clutch assembly, I think we have a few New spares around.
But, if you tossed a belt what do you think caused that?
Just hate to see you waste time if the compressor locked up.
