Check Out My Road Force Balance...Discuss
Almost a year ago I purchased a used set of MY02's to be refinished. The guy messed up one front mounting the tire and the other front had a spot in the finish on the face so he said he would redo them. I waited until winter and just picked them up. He mounted the tires so I took them to a local reputable shop for a road force balance and this is what I got. Clip on weights on the inside lip.....

Crazy. Maybe you got what you paid for. How much were you charged?

Ouch, I guess the "reputable shop" is a little less reputable now... Sorry to see that happen.
|
I have reached the end of my rope and will be selling the car soon. I am tired after 6+ years of trying to get work done correctly only to be disappointed over and over. Unfortunately I don't have an FDMotorsports or a Steve Weiner type establishment to go to and I have to travel hours to get things done that I sometimes cant do myself. Time to sell before I need a new windshield, motor work, or God forbid a respray....
|
Sorry, the see this, but at least they put them on the inside :) I think you are going to have to start telling those that work on the car exactly how you want the work done in the future. It's sad that some people just don't take pride in their work, but the reality is that unless you go to a specialty shop, our cars are just another job to them.

Didn't know those weights were still in existence. And I remember your ordeal with the painted rockers a few years back.
I think it would be easier if you moved, than selling the car. Just sayin'... |
I feel your pain. I had three sets of MY02s before I was satisfied. The first I repainted myself, and they looked okay from ten feet, but I'm picky. The second set I had done at a "reputable" tire/wheel shop in San Bernardino, but when I picked them up, there were obvious blobs in the paint, to which the shop owner responded, "You can find fault with anything". Finally I went to wheeldynamics.com--they refinished my wheels to concours level, mounted my new tires with their Corghi Artiglio magic machine, and balanced with their Hunter RoadForce balancer.

Incomprehensible :surr:
|
are these weights for steel wheels? Most put stick on wheel strips inside nowadays.
|
I use them. Not saying I would on a customer car if a guy didn't want them, but they work fine in some applications.
|
Hey come on now, give the guy a break. He's probably a real competent wheel guy, electrician, plumber, painter, landscaper........ We live in a world now that the art of workmanship and conscientiousness has been lost. When I do/did work for someone, I always thought of how I'd want it done (right). That's not the common denominator anymore. They're still out there, but they're hiding I guess.

Cactus, we have all been following your posts for years. It seems to me that you have put your heart and soul in this car and it shows, it's a real head turner. Hope you have a couple of beers and change your mind.... |
Come on Cactus, you can't give up hope over some damn wheel weights... They're on the inside, they do the job just as well, and they cause no long term damage to your car. What's the big deal? I too think a few beers will bring back some perspective.

A bunch of us in Calgary are all in the same boat, never knowing who to take our car to to get any work done. In the end we just do it ourselves. I know for wheel balancing etc you have to get that done.
It's crazy that we have to spell out everything, for me with wheel balancing, I have a couple of shops I use, I have a relationship with both the service counter person and the guy actually doing the work. They know that if they do something stupid they will be paying. |
