Default New owner blues

Well I may be buying this 95 C2. A friend of mine gave it to me for a week to use and decide if I like it. The last of the aircooled. Well I began by searching for an SC or mid 80's carrera. I wanted to make it into my version of a hot rod with RSR ST roots. That seems to be all the craze these days with the Singer 911 and Magnus Walker.I'm a car guy. I've been buying , restoring, selling, classic cars from the 60's 70's, 80's for almost 30 years. I had a 1988 911 back in the day and loved the sound it made. So while looking for a 911 my friend who owns a 356 restoration shop told me he wanted to sell his 993 because he just leased a new SL. He bought the 993 at the market from a dealer in PA. The car was a 1 owner car with records to 92k miles. Its black on black. He went thru the car and sorted it out for his use. New clutch kit with clutch m/c, all four valve covers, fax/alt bearing, tires, pads, repaired drivers seat (re-upholstered center section), new radio with blue tooth phone, new inner door handles, and other odds and ends. I've driven the car about 50 miles so far. My impressions are that the car drives like a new car. Its very refined, well mannered, quiet, not much power but enough to get you in trouble with. He has offered the car to me for his cost. We go back 30 years as well. I have no doubt that this is the car that I should buy. That the rate the aircooled market is maintaining or appreciating its value, buying this car now is a no brainer. I've read many posts from owners who are in love with the 993. The most refined aircooled porsche created. But then why am I questioning whether this is the right purchase for me. I want this car to be a toy that I can tinker with. But with the 993 there is not much you can do. I wanted to add some RSR fuchs a la the singer but wheels are limited unless I spend $5000 on custom fuchs. The engine is about as developed as can be. aside from adding a super charger there is not much available to improve performance. A chip will just advance the timing a little to gain some HP and adding some Fisker mufflers will just make the car sound like I'm running glass packs. There is not much I can do with the front and rear bumpers. No retro RSR body kits fit the 993. So what is your opinion will I learn to love this car or should I walk away. Ya...IMHO Billy Joel is an idiot for leaving her. Unless she was a beneath! Lol.

The great part I like about the car is that it is what it is, and can be driven like you stole it, and then go for errands too. If you don't want it lemme know, I know a guy who is interested...

I'm sure that many people would envy your chance to buy such a nice two owner car that has been very well maintained. That being said if the 993 is more modern than you really want then maybe you might consider an earlier car that can be backdated to your tastes. To counter what you have said though, the 993 is very modifiable, search the forum and talk to knowledgable tuners, you may be surprised. Most of it is not cheap though. Best of luck.

Implicit in your post is your disappointment with the car's power. If that's the case maybe a later model would suit you better. If you are already having second thoughts, I'd say pass on it. Maybe you can find a 993 turbo.

If you're not in love with the car now, I doubt you'll fall in love with it later. It just sounds like this car doesn't align with what you're looking for.

My first thought as well. I'd have a hard time buying any car that I planned on driving with the hope that I would learn to love it.

Agree with above, if you're not in love with it now, while the honeymoon is on, you probably won't love it much later. As a side note, the front bumper is pretty much a direct swap for a turbo bumper which quite a few of us have done. This car is plenty fast enough to get you in trouble but it sounds like you need something newer with more hp.

Nah, for starters, all you could do would be to add PSS10's, RS bars front and rear, then lower and align to RS specs, Big Red brakes, rear seat delete, ducktail spoiler, basket handle delete, Fister Golden Rod, short shifter and Stage III cans (don't knock 'em unless you've ridden in or driven one), some nice FIKSE wheels with some sticky tires, aero front bumper cover...Nah, it's not for you...let someone on here who loves 993 have it.

The 95 is too slow for you and you want a SC or 3.2? Makes total sense.
