Sport Seats, directions for how to remove plastic seat backs AND photos
Andy, abcar, posted a very helpful thread here
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-assembly.html
that described most of the steps to remove the plastic seat backs for painting or wrapping or???
not everything was clear, so i took a few photo's today when i removed the backs to be wrapped in body color.
follow andy's directions to remove the leather seat covers.
1. then you need to remove the two lower push pins. they are an expansion pin with a central expander rod. if you pull out the central rod, the pin is easily removed by applying a bit of force from behind, see photo's 1, 2 and 3 below.
2. remove the 2 SHCS from the assembly using a 5mm "allen wrench". see photo # 4 below.
3. remove the 2 seat back rake release ***** by applying force, removal took significant force, be brave. i used a high dollar tool from harbor freight which worked well. see photo #5 below.
4. easey-peasey to remove the backs once you've done this.
have fun

Thanks for the photos Craig.
My seat back ***** are leather covered. When I removed mine I needed to be real careful.
I used a soft plastic bondo applicator under the plastic crowbar tool, and slowly walked the **** off. First from the top, then from the bottom.
Please post pics when finished.

.

BTW, while I'm here .... when your seats are in the car with the backs in locked position, are they nice and tight... no movement/noise when you push/pull on the backs? My drivers is tight, but the passenger side is a bit loose and it makes noise on bumpy roads with nobody sitting in it. Do you see a way to adjust/tighten the back down so it's tight in locked position?
TIA ...
TIA ...

Next time I take the seats out I'll look for a method.

Here is a photo of finished product.
I am very happy with the work the guys @ Modern Image in San Diego did, but only moderately happy with the "color" of the wrap.
Turns out the there is no "iris blau" wrap, so I had to go darker or lighter. I chose to go lighter to add a bit of "pop".
I chose to wrap instead of paint, because seats are not original to my car and sooner or later someone else will own them and selling with painted backs will be more challenging than if painted.
Even at a lighter shade of blue, I prefer them over the starry black OEM finish.
The color would probably be a spot-on match for Zenith blue.
Ciao
